Hours
Full Time - 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 3:36 pm. Standby rota payments & overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
Salary
Up to £39,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Waste Operations team at Crossness STW. As the successful candidate, you will work in a multi-disciplinary team responsible for carrying out scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimize plant breakdown. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference at Thames Water by performing a range of assigned front-line activities, including operation, testing, routine checks, maintenance, and problem-solving to ensure that services are delivered to time, cost, and quality standards. You will be involved in planned and preventive maintenance of equipment to support the operation of the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults during incidents.
- Provide technical advice and support for technical trainees as required.
- Work on various equipment including motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, control gear, electronic control systems, and chemical handling equipment.
- Complete statutory checks as required while always working safely and complying with Health and Safety guidance and procedures.
- Be prepared to be trained on the water treatment process.
Experience
You should be a time-served apprentice or have significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship is preferred.

You should be self-motivated, disciplined, and eager to learn from your team. You must take ownership of responding quickly to faults and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Teamwork is essential, as is a proactive approach to recommendations and improvements around the site.
Qualifications
ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 18th Edition is required. Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial, and a valid driving licence is essential.
