About the Role
We’re excited to partner with the London Borough of Southwark to support communities to enjoy their local woodlands and to take action to help manage and enhance them for nature. We’re looking for a Woodland Nature Recovery Officer to help shape this exciting new programme and deliver engagement activities, woodland management and training across several sites in the borough, including parks, cemeteries and other green spaces where woodland is present. You will plan and deliver a varied programme of activities including practical conservation workdays, guided walks, training sessions, and biodiversity monitoring to protect and enhance ancient woodland habitats. You will work closely with existing community groups to identify opportunities for biodiversity improvements and provide the training and support they need to take effective action. Additionally, you will lead volunteer and corporate workdays to carry out conservation tasks that align with woodland management goals and the Southwark Biodiversity Action Plan. Supporting school sessions and public engagement activities that welcome a broader range of visitors to the woods and promote inclusive access to nature will also be part of your role. You will build and maintain partnerships with local organisations, residents, and Southwark Council to deliver collaborative events and engagement initiatives. Producing engaging promotional content for social media and newsletters, and liaising with internal teams and partners to raise awareness of activities will be essential. Finally, you will monitor, evaluate and report on the impact of sessions and activities, maintaining accurate records and contributing to updates for funders and stakeholders.
Experience
Strong knowledge of woodland management practices and techniques. Demonstrable experience delivering practical conservation with volunteers and other public engagement activities (e.g., guided walks, talks, events).
About you
Confident working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including local authorities and community groups. Organised, self-motivated, and proficient in Microsoft Office and database systems.
Qualifications
Full and valid UK driving licence.
